Summer Shakedown Race is Coming Up!

Hello everyone,

The Shakedown race on June 26th is just around the corner. Our planning committee has been discussing some new ideas for our schedule this season.

We would like to all get together Saturday morning on June 25th at the Pavilion at 9:30am to finalize things. This meeting is open to everyone! If you would like to just come to catch up, meet new members, or offer suggestions to help with our upcoming season, I encourage you to attend.

Decisions will be finalized at this get together that will effect this year's season! Our sailing schedule will be altered this year to be more inviting and helpful to beginning sailors.
Thank you to the planning committee for volunteering, and offering their insight to making our Yacht Club grow!

Your Commodore,
Steve

Dockbuilding 101...

Dockbuilding is not for the faint hearted. It requires years of experience, a little bit of skill, a lot of patience, and a minimum of a six pack. Here are a couple of tips as you construct your dock:

Wear water shoes to reduce your chances of stubbed toes.  Use your feet and hands to find any remaining cinder blocks from past years. The blocks that are still intact make great supports.  Find out who your really true friends are and ask if they would be willing to help you. As your first attempts at dock construction fail, and they will...try to keep your cursing to a minimum out of respect to your neighbors.  Once completed with your project, ask your children to be dock testers by simply bouncing up and down on your constructed masterpiece. The best part of this process is later in the season when the lake levels go down and the lake community can see your handiwork with the beautiful supports that you have constructed.

Gypsy Moth Program

Mike Johnson provided the following update regarding the spraying for gypsy moths

The Nuangola Borough Council voted at the April meeting to have the entire borough sprayed, with the assistance of the $8,010 collected by the Lake Association.

Our Borough Secretary has contacted the spraying contractor, Triple F Flying, and confirmed that we are on their list.  We now have an executed agreement in place with Triple F Flying.  The spraying is tentatively scheduled to be done in the middle of May. The scheduled spraying will depend on variables such as the weather and if there are leaves on the trees.  Spraying will cover an area of 641 acres within our community, which excludes the 103 acres for the surface of the Lake. The total cost for the project will be approximately $27,000.00.

Join the Association or Renew Your Membership!

Hello Lake Association Members and Friends -

On behalf of the Nuangola Lake Association, we want to thank you for your past and future support!

Our Association is growing – now with over 100 members, more than 50 volunteers and a dedicated Board of Directors.  As we look toward the summer season, we are pleased to outline an exciting schedule of events for another great season at the Lake!

We want you all to know how important and critical your support is and how much we appreciate your commitment to membership, event participation and serving as volunteers.  Thank you for making the time to help and for doing your special part to ensure the Lake remains beautiful, healthy and fun!

As you know, Lake Preservation is our first priority.  We were able to make great strides over the last 4 years on the lake water quality management initiative, including maintaining a professional Lake Manager, undertaking treatment to prevent the spread of Fanwort, and the management of 3 beaver dams.  These important professional services must continue for 2016 and in the foreseeable future.

We also continue to invest in the Pavilion to ensure the structure is sound and available for use by future generations.  The Lake Association also maintains the boardwalk and cares for the new property on North End Road.  Your weekly e-mail newsletter the “Lake Buzz” has engaged the community & promotes Lake Association events as well as events held by the Nuangola Yacht Club, the Nuangola Library, Theatre at the Grove, the Nuangola Fire Department and the Nuangola Chapel.

Our e-mail list stands at more than 250 recipients – please send us a note or sign up on the website if you’re not currently receiving “Lake Buzz” so we can add you to the list.

Enclosed you’ll find the 2016 Membership Dues Form and the 2016 Summer Events Calendar!  For 2016 the schedule includes everyone’s favorites and some exiting new events. Most notably the return of “RENDEZVOUS” the Kids Camp program.

We simply couldn’t organize these events and care for the Lake at the level that’s needed without your participation and your financial support.   So please take a moment and renew your membership or contribution today - thank you!   We look forward to seeing you and your family at the Lake this summer!

Kind regards, in service,

Scott Barth, Association President
